May 13, (THEWILL) —Nollywood filmmaker Stanley Ontop, a close associate of Alex Ekubo, has revealed details surrounding the actor’s death.
The actor’s reported death threw the entertainment industry into mourning on Tuesday, with tributes continuing to pour in from fellow Nollywood stars and fans.
Reacting to questions about the actor’s sudden death, Stanley Ontop disclosed in an Instagram post on Tuesday that Alex Ekubo had secretly battled stage 4 liver cancer since 2024.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Alex Ekubo, who died on Monday at a hospital in Lagos.
“Alex was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer in 2024. After undergoing treatment and a liver transplant, he briefly returned to work.
“Unfortunately, the liver failed again and complications arose, and his condition deteriorated until his passing. His remains have been deposited at the morgue,” he wrote.
While urging the public to avoid spreading unverified claims about the actor’s illness, Stanley Ontop added:
“We request that everyone allow Alex to rest in peace and respect the privacy of his family during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace.”
