October 24, (THEWILL) — UK grime rapper, Justin Clarke-Samuel, popularly known as Ghetts, has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, following a fatal crash in north-east London.
According to the Metropolitan Police, the 41-year-old allegedly failed to stop after hitting a 20-year-old man on Redbridge Lane East in Ilford on Saturday, 18 October.
The victim later died in hospital on Monday, the same day Ghetts appeared at Stratford Magistrates’ Court.
Authorities said the charge is expected to be upgraded to causing death by dangerous driving at the next hearing.
Ghetts was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 27 October.
Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash to come forward.
Ghetts, a prominent figure in the UK grime scene, has performed at Glastonbury, worked with artists, including Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, and Skepta, and starred as Krazy in the Netflix series Supacell.
He received the MOBO Pioneer Award last year for his contribution to British Black culture.
