April 08, (THEWILL) – Erik ten Hag has attributed Manchester United’s striker, Marcus Rashford’s groin injury during their 2-0 victory over Everton on Saturday, to the club’s congested fixture list.
The Dutchman urged the English Premier League to be more considerate of their schedule. THEWILL recalls that Rashford, who has scored 28 goals for United in all competitions this season, hobbled off the pitch clutching his right leg in the final 10 minutes.
Ten Hag expressed concern for Rashford’s injury and stated that he “can only pray” it was not too serious. “Why is the Premier League giving us the late Sunday night game and the early Saturday game? I think it’s not right, and then you run the risk, players can’t recover that quickly,” Ten Hag said.
Saturday’s match was United’s third game in just seven days, with a Europa League quarterfinal first leg against Sevilla scheduled for Thursday and an EPL match on Sunday, against Nottingham Forest. Ten Hag was frustrated that he could lose his main striker in the midst of this tight schedule.
Ten Hag’s sentiments were echoed by football fans, who expressed concerns about the impact of the club’s packed schedule on players’ physical and mental health. However, the imminent return of Brazilian midfielder, Casemiro, who completed his four-game suspension on Saturday, provided some relief for United.
