April 23, (THEWILL) — Nigerian singer BNXN has responded strongly to comments made by American rapper Fat Joe about his former stage name.

Fat Joe, speaking on a podcast with Jamaican legend Buju Banton, claimed he “dissed” the Nigerian singer on television and “forced” him to stop using the name Buju.

“There is a fake guy in Africa using the Buju name, we dissed him on TV, shut him down, he changed his name,” Fat Joe said.

The comments sparked backlash online, with many Nigerians describing them as disrespectful.

Reacting on social media on Thursday, BNXN criticized the rapper and rejected his claims.

He wrote: “The hate in your heart and your misinformation about African music and its artists is why your chromosomes are all f**ked up. Educate yourself, bozo.

“Even in my moments of rage, I never want to lose my sense of humanity. Respect me and I will respect you.”

He also thanked his fans for speaking up in response to the comments.

BNXN, born Daniel Benson, changed his stage name from Buju to BNXN in 2022 to create a unique global identity and avoid confusion with Jamaican legend Buju Banton.

He has said the decision was not influenced by any remarks made by Fat Joe.
