Kim Kardashian is waging war against a gossip website for reporting that she lied about
getting robbed in Paris and accusing her of filing a bogus claim with her insurance company for millions of dollars.
In a just-filed Manhattan federal court lawsuit, Kardashian says MediaTakeOut.com published
a series of allegedly libelous articles under “misleading headlines” that said she
“staged” the Oct. 3 robbery.
“After having been the victim of a horrific and traumatic armed robbery in France, Kim Kardashian returned to the United States only to again be victimized, but this time by an online gossip tabloid that published a series of articles in early October 2016 referring to her as a liar and thief,” the suit says.
The eight-page complaint describes Kardashian, 35, as a “victim of a violent armed robbery” in her apartment in the exclusive Hotel de Pourtalès.
“Kardashian was assaulted and robbed by two masked men, who placed a gun to her head, duct-taped her hands, legs and mouth, and then left her lying helplessly on the bathroom floor of her rented apartment while the thieves absconded with millions of dollars in jewelry,” the suit says.
Within hours, Media Take Out posted its first story under the headline “New Evidence Suggests … Kim Kardashian ‘STAGED’ The Robbery … Just Like RYAN LOCHTE!! (Here Are The FACTS) #KimRobbery.”
The story purported that Kardashian faked the violent theft in order to “increase the ratings of her family’s television shows,” the suit says.
It also identifies its sources as “people on social media, who are digesting the facts that have been disclosed.”
Media Take Out posted other stories along the same thread in the following days, which Kardashian calls in the suit “blatant and defamatory lies.”
One of them included an Oct. 6 post claiming Kardashian filed a $5.6 million insurance claim — and that “if she faked the robbery … she just committed a FEDERAL CRIME,” according to the suit.
The Hollywood megastar says Media Take Out based its reports on incredible anonymous sources, when really the only people with actual knowledge of what occurred are Kardashian herself, the apartment building concierge — who was also “assaulted at gunpoint and handcuffed” — and the assailants.
Media Take Out, which pegs itself as the “most visited urban website in the world,” has allegedly refused to take down the stories and ignored Kardashian’s demands to publish a retraction and apology, according to the suit.
A rep for Media Take Out didn’t immediately comment.
Kardashian, who is married to rapper Kanye West, is suing Media Take Out and its owner, listed in the suit as Fred Mwangaguhunga, for unspecified damages, saying the stories were “calculated to cause [her] maximum harm.”
