October 11, (THEWILL) — Diane Keaton, the Oscar-winning actress celebrated for her roles in Annie Hall, The Godfather, The First Wives Club, and Father of the Bride, has died at the age of 79.
A family spokesperson confirmed her passing on October 11, 2025, in California, adding that the family has requested privacy as no further details were shared.
Born Diane Hall in Los Angeles in 1946, she adopted her mother’s maiden name, Keaton, as her stage name.
Keaton began her career on stage, earning a Tony Award nomination for Play It Again, Sam, before gaining fame in the 1970s with roles in Lovers and Other Strangers, The Godfather series, and her work with Woody Allen in Sleeper, Manhattan, and Annie Hall.
She won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1977 for her performance in Annie Hall, a role that cemented her place as one of Hollywood’s most distinctive and beloved stars.
Keaton went on to star in Shoot the Moon, Baby Boom, Something’s Gotta Give, The Family Stone, and Book Club.
She also directed several films, including her 1987 debut Heaven. Her final film appearance was in Summer Camp (2024).
