February 05, (THEWILL) — Popular Nigerian actress Ajara Lasisi, popularly known as Aunty Ajara in the Yoruba film industry, has died after a prolonged battle with liver disease, her family has confirmed.
The news was announced on Thursday by her elder brother, Ridwan Lasisi, in a video message.
He said doctors informed the family that Aunty Ajara passed away in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Ridwan expressed gratitude for the prayers and support received during her illness and appealed to the public to stop sending financial donations, saying, “the one we are contributing for her sake is no more.”
“Good morning to you all. My name is Ridwan Lasisi. I am a brother to Ajara. The doctor confirmed to us this morning that Ajara has passed on,”
“All the families, we are using this period to appreciate you all. We appreciate the president and all industry members.
“We also use this opportunity to appeal to those sending money not to send it anymore. The one we are contributing for her sake is no more. Thank you so much. We do not want you to send money into that account again.”
Nollywood director Tobi Oladele, widely known as Tee Money, also confirmed her death in a statement shared on Instagram.
He expressed gratitude for the love and prayers she received and noted that she passed away after a long and courageous battle with the illness.
Before her death, colleagues in the film industry had appealed publicly for financial support for her treatment as her health continued to deteriorate despite ongoing medical care.
Aunty Ajara was a well-loved figure in Nollywood, known for her memorable roles in Yoruba films.
Her passing has sparked an outpouring of grief from fans and fellow actors.
