April 20, (THEWILL) — The father of late British singer, Amy Winehouse, Mitch Winehouse, has lost a High Court case over the sale of her belongings.
Winehouse, who manages her estate, sued her former stylist, Naomi Parry and friend, Catriona Gourlay, claiming they made money from auctioning her belongings in the United States in 2021 and 2023.
He argued the items were sold without his knowledge and that the women “deliberately concealed” the sales.
However, Deputy High Court judge, Sarah Clarke KC, on Monday, ruled that there was no evidence of wrongdoing.
“I find that neither Ms Parry nor Ms Gourlay deliberately concealed any of their disputed items from the claimant”, the judge said.
She added that even if they had, the estate could have discovered the items “with reasonable diligence”.
Parry and Gourlay said the items were either gifts from Amy Winehouse or already belonged to them.
During the case, Parry accused Winehouse of bringing the claim out of “petty jealousy”, which he denied.
One of the disputed items was a silk mini-dress worn by the singer during her final performance in Belgrade in 2011, which sold for $243,200.
Following the ruling, Parry said the claim had “failed entirely and should never have been brought.”
Amy Winehouse, known for her 2006 album “Back to Black”, died in 2011 at the age of 27 from alcohol poisoning.
