April 22, (THEWILL) — British rock musician, Dave Mason, co-founder of the band Traffic, has died at the age of 79.
His representative shared the news on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, stating that he died peacefully on Sunday, April 19, at his home in Gardnerville, Nevada.
“Dave Mason lived a remarkable life devoted to the music and the people he loved”, the statement said.
Born in Worcestershire, England, Mason co-founded Traffic in the 1960s alongside Steve Winwood.
He wrote and sang some of the band’s best-known songs, including “Hole in My Shoe” and “Feelin’ Alright?”
Despite frequent lineup changes, Mason remained a key contributor to the band’s early success.
He later built a successful solo career and collaborated with major artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac and The Rolling Stones.
His 1977 album “Let It Flow” produced his biggest solo hit, “We Just Disagree,” a soft rock ballad that became a major radio success in the United States and remains one of his most popular songs.
Mason was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Traffic and remained active in music for decades.
He retired from touring in 2025 following health issues.
